What is this?

Tit Check, or Iron Rulers, are found mostly in southern Asia. However, in the west, these weapons have been connected with Japanese arts, especially with the help of movie star Raphael (TMNT). Made of steel, these weapons are a favourite of many.

The characteristic

Part of the double-handed weapon family, Tit Check have three prongs — the centre is for blocking and thrusting, while the side prongs are for hooking and controlling.

What separates the Tit Check from other weapons in Ging Mo Kune is the striking technique — in Cantonese we say, 'barn'. The characteristic of the Tit Check strike is like using a bamboo stick as a whip, and on impact, the whip becomes a steel pole. When practicing Tit Check techniques, we aim to hear the whistling of the 'blade' (centre prong) in the air before snapping the weapon into place with extreme accuracy and control.

When do I need it?

After you feel comfortable with the Surlng Doe, or when you commence Purple Belt content — whichever is sooner.

Pro-tips

As with other metal weapons, wipe these down after training and apply a light coating of light-grade oil to protect against rust. Remember to wrap and conceal when travelling to and from training. Also, consult your local police station for clarification around laws pertaining to ownership of this training tool.
