The Gim (or Jian in pinyin) is a favourite for many, not only to use, but also to collect. Some consider it the pinnacle of all weapon training due to its mixed nature — it’s hard and soft, fluid and rigid, predictable and surprising. It’s almost as if the blade comes to life, and wielders often feel deeply connected to it.
This mid-range, double-edged weapon is used for precision incision, yet is vulnerable when stuck on its side.
As soon as you feel comfortable, or when you complete Brown Belt content.
Treat this as with any bladed weapon. If you are fortunate to have a scabbard, it’s best to apply care to the scabbard also. Also, consult your local police station for clarification around laws pertaining to ownership of this training tool.
