I started training in January 2005, after an introduction by a work colleague ( Si Hing Albert). I was looking for something that was efficient, practical and didn’t require someone to be big or strong to necessarily perform well. Due to the job i was working at the time, it needed to be a highly effective form of fighting as well.
On my first lesson, I met Dai Si Hing Rob (Si Hing Rob at the time), and was completely blown away by what I experienced. I signed up for a year without hesitation, and was in love with the training very quickly.
I soon noticed a bunch of students wearing different uniforms, that were training regularly, and to a much higher level. I found out that these were the Academy’s Trainee Instructors, who partake in a 4 year long course of intensive training under Si Fu Gawain Siu, with the goal of becoming a Senior Instructor. I was especially impressed with the high level of conditioning they had, and the advanced level multiple opponent sparring that I would always see them do.
I made the decision that I would join them, in the next available intake. My training continued, and almost a year after joining, I joined Si Fu and some students in the Annual Tour to China, which was an amazing experience. Being on that tour with Si Hing Dan ( a Senior Instructor at the time), confirmed for me that the Instructor Course was for me.
I began the Instructor course in March 2006, as a Blue Belt. Within a month of starting, I was honoured to be invited to join Si Fu and some other senior students from the Instructor Course, to participate in a Cert 4 in Sports Coaching, specializing in Martial Arts. I accepted, and began my involvement with the Skills For Life Program.
In 2007, I began volunteering my time to work at the Academy, to learn the ropes with the aim of becoming a Full Time employee. I also started to teach classes at that time. In the middle of that year, I also got to assist with one of the Academy's earlier Skills For Life programs, delivered to Bunbury Cathedral Grammar. My enthusiasm to teach grew, and I found my self spending more and more time at the Academy.
I graded to Red Belt in November 2007, and followed that up with completion of the Instructor Course, and grading to the rank of Senior Instructor in August 2008.
I began my full time employment with the Academy in February 2009, achieving a 3 year goal of mine. In that time I have been involved with a number of Skills For Life Programs as the sole Instructor, which I am still teaching. I also teach all belt levels of Ging Mo Kune, as well as Tai Chi, and private lessons.
I am lucky to be apart of great team, working with amazing people and incredibly skilled practitioners of the art of Ging Mo Kune, namely Si Fu Gawain Siu, and Dai Si Hing Rob, as well as our team of Instructors, and Trainee Instructors. I look forward to being apart of the Ging Mo Academy for many more years to come.
